Edward Hopper
Edward Hopper is an American realist painter he was born in 1882. In 1942 he created a painting called "Nighthawks" I chose to look at some of the sketches for that painting he names them "Studies for Nighthawks."
I like that the style of his drawing is simple, yet realistic. The bold lines that he uses makes it look simple, almost like a cartoon. However the way he uses tone makes it more realistic and three dimensional. The separate studies with different positions show that Hopper was thinking about placement. You can also see in the lines that he is breaking down the form into shapes. which helps when it comes to creating the final piece.
I like the sketches in I like the way he plans everything out before he creates the final piece.
