Sam Cornwell is a well-known astro/photographer he uses
various cameras and equipment to create his stunning images. His favourite
camera to use is a disposable camera as you don't know the results until they
are printed and there is no editing you only get a certain amount of shots and
you have to really consider the image you are taking. He also uses a wet plate
collodion which is an old fashioned camera that was used in the 1850’s. I like
the Collodion as it creates a very real and three dimensional images which you
would not expect from an old camera. He prints the photos onto sheets of metal
instead of glass as it creates a better effect and is easier to work with. It
is fascinating that such a simple camera; with only a lens, a screen and a dark
box; can be used to create such a beautiful image. I also like his astro
photography the detail and the beauty captured on camera is amazing. I enjoy
Sam's work I find it inspirational and different as it has more meaning behind
the image.
Sam Cornwall’s photographs
fall into different categories of photography however he is mainly known for
his astrophotography. His images of the moon, stars and aurora borealis are
well known and are featured in magazines; he has also won many awards for his
images.
