The Three crosses by Rembrandt is a series of etchings of The son of god being hung on a cross. The first etching is of him hung on the cross next to the two thieves. His family are grieving to the right and there i a crowd of angry people and guards. this print is very heavy and dark and it is quite hard to make out the figures.

There is less ink and fine detail in the centre of the print and as you move out to the edges it gets darker and more detailed. This makes it look like there is a light shining down the centre of the print onto Jesus. The tone is also better on this print as it is worked on more and instead of blocks of colour there are fine lines that create tone.

This print is a lot lighter with less ink and the detail of all the faces is allot clearer. It looks allot cleaner and is easier to make out all the figures. The lines are also allot thinner and it looks like a drawing rather than a print. I prefer this to the first one although it is still to dark in the bottom corners to make out the detail.
In this print he has changed the positioning of the horse it is now facing toward Jesus. the quality of the print is lower than the ones above as it is cloudier and darker the print focuses on the centre more and blocks out the crowd.
