The Futurist Art Movement

Futurism is an art movement that began in Italy in the early 20th century. The movement was founded by Marinetti. Futurism was based on war, movement and technological advances. The Nazi's controlled art and their work however the artists tended to agree with Nazi ideas especially Italy as their country was in great poverty and the facist campaign promised to help them progress and grow.
Umberto Boccioni is an Italian painter and sculptor. He was born on the 19th of October 1882 and died on the 17th of August 1916. One of Boccioni's paintings that stand out to me is "Elasticity" painted in 1912. I like the bright warm colours of the painting. Also because of all the fragments to the painting it looks like it belongs to the Cubism movement. However he uses these fragments to depict movement of the man on the horse in the countryside. This painting is mainly influenced by movement unlike his other piece "States of mind III: Those who stay." This shows soldiers at war hiding in long grass with guns.
Gino Severini was also an artist who was part of the Futurism movement. Severini was born on the 7th of April 1883 and died on the 26th of February 1966. He is an Italian painter and was also know for his mosaics and frescoes. A painting I like by Severini is "Dynamic Hieroglyphic of the Bal Tabrin." This was painted in 1912 this painting shows dancers in a ballroom. The painting is also fragmented like Boccioni's work. I like the tone used as it gives a sense of three dimensions and makes the dancers stand out. I like his work is I think it takes allot of skill to depict movement in that style.
Giacomo Balla is also a well know artist associated with the movement. He was born on the 18th of July 1871 and died on the 1st of March 1958. He was also an Italia painter "In his art he created pictorial deception of light movement and speed." The painting I chose to look at is called "Abstract speed and sound" painted in 1914-1914. I like the colour used in Balla's work the colours are representational to the sound and speed of the wind. And the line shows the direction and force of the speed and sound. I think this is a very clever way to convey the kinetic forms.
