Tom Davidson is famously know for creating incredibly detailed lino prints. He hand crafts and produces these from one block of lino. He uses ink to create light and dark tones. He currently has his own gallery called 'The Tom Davidson Gallery' in Earlston. The print I have chosen to look at is 'Frozen River' the 24th edition. I like the angle this is carved from and the intricate detail. The view of the river suggest he may have been on a bridge looking down. I also like the background and how it seems almost blurred out it makes the objects in the foreground stand out. And makes you notice the detail in the trees and river. Davidson uses a very limited pallete yet still captures the detail and tone which makes it realistic. The colours are very dull which help emphasise that it is winter. Also the congrats of the dark trees to the pure white snow makes is stand out. I like Davidsons prints as he creates stunningly colourful and detailed pieces which are quite hard to create. Davidson makes his prints precise and picturesque. sadly i could not get a picture of this print as is is copyrighted.
