John Nash was born on the 11th of April 1893 and died on the 23rd of September 1997. Nash is a British artist know for painting, engraving and illustrating. A piece I find interesting by John Nash is his watercolour painting of "Fallen Tree" which was completed in 1995. Which is now on display at The Tate Gallery in London. The use of tone and colour make the painting seem very dark and gloomy. I like the detail of the trees and leaves the brush strokes make the tree seem more realistic. I like the contrast of the dark colours of the tree trunks to the white of the snow It makes the trees stand out more. The way the tree has fallen it looks like it has broken through into the foreground making it look three dimensional. I also like the twisted limbs of the fallen tree the branches and top of the trunk almost create a human figure. Which could represent death. In summary I like this piece because of its fine detail and deeper subject matter.
